Get more cops walking

Back in October, county police announced they would be putting a special emphasis on patrolling bars after police and local officials claimed cheap liquor prices were contributing to the crime wave. It's time we recognized the absurdity of this premise. Fifty-cent rails aren't contributing to armed robbery, and focusing our limited resources on policing inside bars is leaving university students outside of those bars even more vulnerable. Wednesday's attempted armed robbery didn't happen inside Cornerstone; it happened at the corner of Rhode Island and Norwich.
That incident would have never happened if Prince George's Police were in the area actually walking their patrols instead of riding in their cars. In England, I have seen more police walking their patrols instead of driving their cars. And they walk in pairs. In America, due to our car culture, we mostly see cops only if they are in their cars.

Seriously, one of the best ways to prevent crime in the city is to make police more visible to the people.

Police Prepared for Riot! Left Disappointed!

Last night while there was dozens of students screaming crazy, there was no riot. Route One was still flowing with traffic. Students going to and from restaurants to eat or to their bars. Prince Georges County Police however took no chances and set a two-rowed riot squad lined up along Knox Road next to city hall. A black police truck was standing by opposite of the City Hall building. College Park Fire and EMS Department also stood by as a precaution as well as additional officers and patrols of County Police. After around 7:50pm, the riot officers left the area, the black truck with them too. They realize that a riot will not going to happen.

So that was it, Terps won, no riot, everyone slept peacefully. The Diamondback also written a piece of tonight's peaceful night.
